Marriage in Islam

Marriage in Islam

Islam does not see in marriage only as a means of uniting a man and a woman, and one body to another, or of satisfying sexual desires and appetites. Its vision is deeper and larger, it is a building to build the human race. But it is also an appeasement and peace of mind from an individual point of view. From a social point of view, it is a community obligation. For this reason, the life of a couple must be based on mutual aid and the exchange of feelings. Spouses must live together as an entity, share the same bed, feel that each belongs to the other, but also have a common goal to build a family, to bring a stone to the building that represents the society in which they live.

Islam has established rules in accordance with the instinct and the nature of the human being to satisfy his desires, but if Islam offers the right to satisfy his desires and to concretize the goal of any human being, it, however, has hardly allowed everything as libertines do; nor did it forbid everything as some ascetics and fanatics do. Therefore, marriage in Islam is the only way to satisfy sexual appetites without causing harm to society. It is an oasis of peace attributing moral and physical tranquility to a man and a woman. This bond, which is marriage, is the basis of the combination of things in this world. This is emphasized by the words of Allah:

“Praise to the One who created all couples from what the earth grows, from themselves, and from what they do not know!” (Quran 36 :36)

Allah also says: “And of everything We have created (two elements) of couple. Perhaps you will remember?” (Quran 51:49)

The Holy Quran has clearly presented this purpose in evocative form when it says: “Your wives are a field for you to plow.” (Quran 2 : 223 )

It therefore makes it possible to achieve a human goal without neglecting personal enjoyment. This is why it encourages marriage and facilitates it, while considering it as a way of attaining divine approval and His reward.

In addition, when the woman entered Islam at the beginning, she was asked to respect the instructions cited in the Quran and specific to the oath of allegiance.

“O Prophet! When believing women come to swear allegiance to you, (and swear) that they will associate nothing with Allah, that they will not steal, that they will not indulge in adultery, that they will not kill not their own children, that they will not commit any infamy either with their hands or with their feet and that they will not disobey in what is proper, then receive their oath of allegiance, and ask Allah for forgiveness for them. Surely Allah is Forgiving and Most Merciful.” (Quran: 60:12)
